While I was settling down in 2 tournaments on Full Tilt I made a wisecrack remark to my wife and in typical wifey fashion, she took it a little more seriously than I had perhaps intended her to.
She said to me "that’s -ev karma for your poker you realise. Now you’re going to lose all your chips!" "Wow honey, that’s a bit rough".
My quick witted fine specimen of wife then proceeded to slowly walk the staircase swinging her hips to the sound of my fast and furious mouse clicks. The look on her face said “take a look at what you’re getting none of tonight you fat <censored>” and into the upstairs darkness she disappeared. Leaving me, the Full Tilt Fat Frowning Panda to ponder what possibly could have been.
I continued on with my 2 tournaments the $2.25 Rebuy with 186 runners and the $3.30 Knock Out with 401 runners and crossed my fingers that the –ev karma curse would not take effect.
As different stages of each tournament progressed I realised that I was within reach of making both final tables and shifted gears to allow myself half a chance at achieving this feat which to date had only dreamed of.
By tightening up the way I did and many players often do around any bubble, I sacrificed a lot of chips in both tourneys but accomplished my task and made both final tables. The rebuy was first and I entered the final table arena the shortest of short stacks, but having won tournaments from this position before I knew I had it in me for a good finish and about an hour later took out the last combatant heads up for the win.
The sweetest of short stack victories. In the meanwhile I was fiercely battling over table captaincy with European hardheads that didn’t want to give an inch or a pot or even a small blind away. I eventually got into a raise, reraise, shove situation with a player holding 22. I was holding AQ but would not win the pot bowing out in 6th place.
I was pretty proud of my achievement of not just the rebuy win but the double final table. And yes I did creep upstairs and wake up the wife with the news and in typical wifey fashion purred “I knew you would win 1”
